We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to take part of the management of a fast-moving product engineering team. Via this opportunity, you can have a significant impact in one of our most critical business domains, in a role where you’ll develop engineers, guide careers, organize projects, be accountable for technical delivery, and empower the distributed team of engineers.
The Engineering Manager will report to the VP Engineering and will manage a team of engineers with different seniority level and spread in different locations in Belgium and Europe.
The engineering Manager is first, and foremost, a people manager (a talented and diverse group of engineers) that provides feedbacks, listens to engineers, sets their goals, and provides them with challenging work that drives values for our users and business.
You are a great team builder, a good recruiter, a great communicator, and a real issue resolver. You’re empathic, like to develop people and the team through coaching, mentoring, management support, and conduct regular 1:1's.
You can be hands-on and lead by example.
You contribute together with the Principal Engineers and the VP Engineering for establishing the best in class engineering process. You also contribute to the product and technical roadmap of our platform in collaboration with engineering and product leaders.
You focus on continuous organizational improvement and are a great change manager.
You identify and remove roadblocks for your team
With the VP Engineering, you hire and manage a strong and unified technology team, develop, and motivate our talents.
You create a thriving and fun atmosphere within the engineers where you’ll have direct reports ranging from junior-level to highly experienced engineers. You’ll be responsible for their performance and career growth.
You ensure good communication and knowledge sharing across the entire engineering organization as well as outside your organization.
Together with the VP Engineering and the Principal Engineers, you manage transversal engineering projects.
You are supporting the VP Engineering in managing the annual bottom-up budget for the engineering department & sourcing/technology providers.
You report to the VP Engineering.
We don’t expect you to write or review code on a regular basis, so this role may not be for you if you will deeply miss those things
What you need for this position
Master’s degree (or equivalent) is a must-have, in Computer Science/Engineering is a plus
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
You have experience in building and leading an Agile team. This includes hiring, supporting employee growth, and performance management.
Excellent project management skills: “Making things happen” mindset.
Experience working in an agile development environment and lean software development.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to speak with stakeholders and communicate with different tech teams.
You are fluent in English.
You have a genuine passion and curiosity towards technology.
You’re comfortable with ambiguity and figuring things out as they evolve, change, and new requirements emerge. Our company and customer base are rapidly growing and this means new information can lead to new processes and outcomes.
A first experience in SAAS/Cloud-based solutions is a plus
